Playoff bound?

live or memorex

Can we trust the Bears now?

Jay Cutler and his mismatched gang of linemen and receivers are in solid control of their own playoff destiny.  Is this live or Memorex?  Are the Bears a good team or is parity killing the NFL?  Are 32 teams too many in this watered down league?

After a convincing game over the Eagles on Sunday, the Bears are looking to set themselves up for a legitimate playoff run.  Bolstered primarily by an attacking defense, Chicago has now shown that they can compete with anyone.

Am I ready to start sizing my Bears Super Bowl ring though?  Hardly.  Coming into the Philadelphia game, the Bears ranked last in strength of schedule, so the real test began against the Eagles (which was a major success) and will continue in the last four games after Detroit this week.

The offensive line looks better than in the earlier games, but Jay Cutler still displays occasional lapses in focus and some immaturity – not exactly the hallmarks of a champion.

Anyone who tells you they know who will represent the NFC in Dallas is fooling you.  The truth is that a handful of teams have talent but a share of weaknesses.  Fortunately, the Bears have emerged as one of those imperfect teams, and if 2006 was any indication, a Super Bowl appearance CAN be had with a strong defense and effective special teams, even when the quarterback has trouble holding onto the snap from center.
