Vikings 36, Bears 10

Another ugly loss, another ugly outing by Cutler. Regardless of who or what you want to blame Chicago’s woes on, the fact is it ain’t working with Cutler behind center. It’s true that the receivers stink. It’s true that the offensive line is below par. It’s true that the coaching seems to be worse than ever (what was with the first half challenge of Knox’s obvious fumble?!?!). It’s also true that none of the above will be getting better now that the Bears are stuck with Cutler for 5 years and don’t even have a 1st round pick for a couple years.

No early picks means no rebuilding of the o-line through the draft, and good luck trying to acquire a good o-lineman in his prime through the free agent market. Basically, it’s going to be Jay Cutler and his “unlimited potential” throwing to guys wishing they were average. In case you haven’t noticed, Cutler historically hasn’t been able to get his teams to overachieve, so don’t look for that to happen anytime soon.

It’s time to reverse the screws on this deal. Hope that Cutler finishes the season strong and trade him away for some talent and/or picks. At this point, the Bears needs are many, and volume of solid players is a bigger need than one great player, particularly when that player isn’t actually great.

Trade Jay Cutler.

The Broncos have developed most of their offense line with late round draft picks. The only exception was Ryan Clady for left offensive tackle. and he was a first round pick. I’m sure the Bears can do the same thing. The problem with your offense is serious lack of talent at reciever positions. Cutler has perhaps one of the best arms in the game, and he has a tendancy to throw into areas he shouldn’t, thinking he can thread the needle. A serious running game helps take pressure off the quarterback. You want a team that can be a contener? then build a better offense around your quarterback. If you handicap him, what options do you have? Cutler’s only options are to throw into traffic, because you have no receivers who can get separation from their defenders. Get some decent scouting done, and find some talent. Look at the talent Shannon Sharpe was. He came from a small school from the South. There are guys like that all over the league. There is a ton of talent out there. The scouts just need to turn over more rocks, find the hidden gems out there to be had.
